Arboreal Bioinnovations Raises ₹230 Crore to Scale Specialty Food Ingredients Business

Lucknow-based Arboreal Bioinnovations has raised ₹230 crore in a Series A funding round co-led by EAAA Alternatives and Omnivore, with participation from existing investor Rainmatter by Zerodha. The company said the capital will be used to expand manufacturing capacity, strengthen research and development, and accelerate the rollout of new specialty food and nutraceutical ingredients.

Arboreal operates in the fast-growing ingredient technology space, where it develops products across next-generation proteins, cocoa-based ingredients, natural zero-calorie sweeteners, functional fibres, and other platforms under development. In simple terms, it supplies the building blocks that food, beverage, and nutrition brands use to make products cleaner, healthier, and more functional.

The size of the round makes it one of the more significant early-stage funding events in India’s food ingredients sector. That matters because ingredient companies usually require long development cycles, process expertise, and manufacturing discipline before they can scale, which means large checks are often a sign of strong conviction in both the team and the category.

This funding also reflects a broader shift in the food and nutrition industry. Consumer brands are increasingly looking for science-backed ingredients that support sugar reduction, protein fortification, and functional nutrition, and companies like Arboreal are building the underlying supply chain for that trend. If it executes well, the startup could become an important enabler for the next generation of packaged food and nutraceutical products in India.

The participation of Omnivore is especially relevant because the fund has a strong focus on agriculture and food systems, while Rainmatter’s continued backing suggests confidence in Arboreal’s long-term platform value. Together, the investor mix points to a company that is not just chasing a single product line, but building a broader ingredient innovation business with industrial scale in mind.

Public coverage suggests Arboreal has already been recognized as a plant biotechnology and bio-nutritional food products company, and earlier investor references point to support from names such as Pi Ventures and the Narotam Sekhsaria Family Office. That indicates the company has been developing in this space for years before this large Series A, rather than appearing suddenly on the market.
